Problem Statement

R&D productivity is not at acceptable levels because fundamentally it still is an individualistic art. Organizations continue to build complex "systems" with the hope of a productivity return. The problem is that these "systems" are not oriented toward helping the researcher. After all, how long have document management systems been installed? What about those custom developed database solutions? Yes, improving the productivity of your research is not a new problem.

Market research studies have found that of a researcher's time, approximately 31% is spent communicating with others in the company, 24% is wasted waiting for decisions to be made or for something to happen and 34% was spent performing administrative tasks. Thus, leaving just 11% of a researcher's time to devote to actual research. Further studies found that, over 80% of this research time was spent doing work that was the same or very similar to work previously done and that actually only 2.2% of a researchers time is spent performing novel research.

These existing systems never take into account how a researcher really works day-to-day. Research is a disciplined world made up of creative individuals who collaborate with others to solve problems that can lead to sizable rewards. It's unfortunate that they are unable to collaborate better and smarter because they simply cannot find all the available and relevant information they to make better use of their research time.

Ardenno Collaboration Center

Ardenno's Collaboration Center solution addresses these common research problems. Companies need better ways to manage the vast amount of growing data available for their knowledge workers—starting from raw analytical instrument data, to molecular drawings and other structured and unstructured analytical data. A key challenge is making the vast amount of available data easily accessible for internal collaborative purposes to enable researchers to take advantage of their colleagues' work in order to deliver the best possible product in the shortest possible timeframe.

The information silos maintained in research organizations have created an exaggerated "MyData" mentality that has imposed barriers to data sharing. Hierarchical storage and compliance systems have exacerbated the "MyData" problem by migrating many files to long-term storage platforms without an understanding of their intellectual value. A lack of semantic searching has made it difficult to find and retrieve "the right" files. All of these factors have stunted knowledge worker productivity. Ardenno's Collaboration Center solution helps disparate research teams perform smarter, and to enable them to better leverage their complimentary knowledge community.
